Perfume makes people happy and confident. The pleasant scent makes you smell good and even appealing or sexy when you’re with people, which makes you feel delighted and confident.

People who use perfumes have more positive behavior and social skills than those who rarely or never use perfumes and this was noted in psychological research. Overall, most people believe that smelling good boosts their self-confidence.

Many perfumes can alter the mood, and promote positivity, alertness, tranquility, and relaxation. Have you ever tried spraying perfume on your wrist or turning on the diffuser with essential oils in times of stress and you felt your stress melt away slowly?  This is one of the reasons why people wear perfume every day, to smell good and feel good. But many a time, our perfume doesn’t even last till breakfast which makes you wonder why. In this article, let’s dive into how to make your perfume last all day to make the most of your perfume.

1.  Apply right after your shower.

Fragrance clings better to moisture, so the best time to apply perfume to your skin is right after your shower, after patting dry. You’ll also feel more comfortable when perfume is spritzed onto clean skin and not on unwashed skin with odor, sweat, and sebum.

2.  Moisturize your skin first and mix it with body lotion.

After your shower, pat dry, and moisturize your skin with an unscented or mildly scented lotion before you spritz perfume. Moisturized skin will hold on to your perfume longer than dry skin and you will smell the perfume throughout the day. You could also mix your perfume with unscented lotion and apply it to your skin. Have a small bottle of the perfumed-mixed lotion in your bag or office and apply it on your arms several times a day to moisturize your skin while touching up on the fragrance.

3.  Spritz or dab on your clothes.

Perfume lasts longer on clothing than on skin due to the fabrics’ absorbent properties. Natural oils on the skin (sebum) and sweat will break down the fragrance or evaporate with the sweat. However, avoid spraying on clothes made from delicate fabrics such as silk or white-colored clothes as perfume might discolor the fabrics. In such cases, spray the perfume on your skin. Spraying on your clothes is advisable if you have sensitive skin and eczema as the chemicals from the perfume may aggravate the issues.

3.  Focus on your pulse points

When you spray perfume on your body, focus on the pulse points – the wrists, the nape of your neck, the insides of the elbows, the cleavage, and the back of your knees. These parts of your body emit heat which could help the fragrance notes develop quicker.

Ideally, spritz a perfume about five inches (about 12.7cm) from your skin.  Spritzing too close to the skin will result in a flow of the perfume, which can be messy and feel unpleasant.

4.  Don’t rub or dab, just spray

Some people have the habit of spritzing perfume on the wrists and then rubbing them together before dabbing on the neck and other parts of the body. This is the incorrect way of applying perfume as the friction created by rubbing heats the skin, which produces natural enzymes that alter the scent.

5.  Spritz perfume onto your hairbrush and brush it in your hair.

Hair holds perfume much longer than skin as skin is porous. But the alcohol in the perfume might damage your hair in the long run. Perfume or fragrance oils and water-based perfumes would be less harsh on your hair but if you want to spritz regular perfume on your hair, the best way is to spritz some on your hairbrush and gently brush it into your hair.

6.  Invest in high-quality perfume

This is perhaps one of the most effective ways to have a perfume that lasts all day long – invest in high-quality perfumes. Expensive perfumes are often made using high-quality ingredients to create a more refined, more concentrated, and lingering scent. Just two or three spritzes of a high-quality perfume can help you smell good all day. Investing in high-quality perfumes that are more expensive can give you a bang for your buck and help you save money in the long run as you use a lesser amount each time and your bottle of perfume lasts longer than cheaper lower-grade ones.

Final Thoughts

Everyone loves to smell like a bouquet of fresh flowers all day.  Many perfumes won’t last till breakfast or mid-morning because of wrong application methods and using low-grade perfumes.  You will reap the benefits of having lingering fragrance on your body all day when you invest in high-quality perfumes. They may be more expensive but it’s the quality that matters and you will save money in the long run. In addition, by following the above perfume hacks, you will get the most out of your perfume every time.
